Syrah Resources announced in US-Australia Critical Minerals Alliance

Delivering on the Next Generation of Innovation and Partnership with Australia

Syrah Resources is the largest supplier of natural graphite products outside of China, and the most advanced vertically integrated supplier of natural active anode materials (AAM). First production from Syrah’s 11.25ktpa AAM Vidalia facility (Louisiana, USA) is expected this quarter.

On 25 October 2023, President Biden of the United States welcomed Prime Minister Albanese of Australia for an official visit and state dinner. A focus of discussions was the importance of the US-Australia alliance to achieving sustainable and stable supply of critical minerals. This involves a commitment to investing in “high quality mines” and “a deepening of both countries manufacturing capability and work on battery technology research and development.” Specifically, Syrah has been acknowledged in the official statement by the White House as part delivering on this ambition.

Syrah and US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) have signed a US$150 million conditional loan commitment for Syrah’s Balama Graphite Operation in Mozambique.  The loan, which supports ex-China natural graphite production, enhances security in feedstock supply for the global anode market. Syrah’s investment in its Vidalia AAM facility in Louisiana, which has been supported by a loan from the US Department of Energy (DOE), de-risks and diversifies global battery production necessary for the electrification of transportation and clean energy solutions.
